Privacy Policy

The short version

GearCaddie is built to collect as little personal data as possible. Your player profile, saved clubs, and price-alert preferences are stored only in your own browser — not on a GearCaddie server. Search queries go to our server to run the search and aren't stored long-term. If you use the camera scanner, the photo is sent to our AI provider to identify the club and is not kept by GearCaddie afterward. We don't sell your data, because we don't have a copy of it to sell.

1. Your player profile (handicap, saved clubs, price alerts)

If you fill in a player profile on GearCaddie+ — handicap, swing speed, ball flight, common miss, goals, saved clubs, or an email address for future price alerts — that information is saved using your browser's local storage, on your device only. It is never transmitted to or stored on any GearCaddie server. It stays there until you clear your browser's site data, and it doesn't follow you to a different browser or device. Because GearCaddie doesn't receive this data, we also can't currently email you with it — the "notify me" checkbox saves your preference locally for when that feature is connected to a real email service (see "Future changes" below).

2. Search and camera scan

When you search, your query is sent to GearCaddie's server to look up matching clubs in our catalogue and is not permanently logged or stored. When you use the camera scanner, the photo you capture is sent to OpenAI's API to identify the club in the image; GearCaddie does not save a copy of that photo. We temporarily track request counts by IP address, in memory only (not written to disk), purely to prevent abuse of the search and scan features — that counter resets automatically and isn't tied to any profile.

3. Cookies and tracking

GearCaddie does not currently use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics. Your player profile uses browser local storage rather than cookies, as described above. If we add analytics or advertising technology later, this policy will be updated first.

4. Who we share information with

Camera-scan photos are shared with OpenAI, our AI provider, solely to identify the equipment in the photo. We don't share your player profile with anyone, because it never reaches us in the first place. When affiliate retailer links go live, clicking one will take you to that retailer's own site, which has its own privacy practices — see our Affiliate Disclosure.

5. Your choices

Because your profile lives in your browser, you're already in full control of it: clear it anytime from the GearCaddie+ page, or clear your browser's site data for GearCaddie to remove everything at once. There's no account to delete because there's no server-side account yet.

6. Children's privacy

GearCaddie is not directed at children and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13 (or the relevant minimum age in your region).

7. Future changes

As GearCaddie adds real accounts, server-stored profiles, and actual price-alert emails, this policy will change to describe exactly what's collected, how long it's kept, and how to delete it — and, for email specifically, how consent and unsubscribe work under applicable anti-spam law. We'll update the date at the top of this page whenever that happens.

8. Your rights, our privacy officer, and Quebec's Law 25

GearCaddie is a Quebec business and this section reflects Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector ("Law 25"). By default, the person with the highest authority at GearCaddie is responsible for privacy compliance and acts as our privacy officer; you can reach them at the contact address below.

You have the right to ask what personal information GearCaddie holds about you, to request that inaccurate information be corrected, and to withdraw consent or request deletion where applicable. In practice, for most visitors this request will come back short: as described above, your player profile lives only in your own browser and never reaches our servers, so there is usually nothing on our side to show you. Camera-scan photos are the one exception — see below.

Cross-border transfer: when you use the camera scanner, your photo is sent to OpenAI, our AI provider, to identify the club in the image. OpenAI processes this outside Quebec (in the United States). The photo is used only for that identification and is not stored by GearCaddie afterward. This is the only personal information GearCaddie currently sends outside Quebec.

If you're not satisfied with how GearCaddie has handled a privacy request, you can file a complaint with Quebec's Commission d'accès à l'information (CAI), the government body that oversees Law 25.
